Life is a Balancing Act

It is Sunday morning. I just chased our little kitten off of the table next to me, and I've been chasing him out of the curtains all morning. He's a complete a-hole (sorry, not sorry), but he's also the sweetest little guy imaginable! I'm not sure how something so small can capture a heart so quickly! I've always been a sucker for kitties, though. He is perfectly content jumping on counter tops, the refrigerator, our other cat... and then curling up and snuggling and being as sweet as can be.

Kite loves helping Daddy play cards on the laptop!

Jumping from one activity to the next does not seem to be an issue for him. Of that, I am a little jealous.

Life is a balancing act. I've never been one to rest on my laurels, let the dust settle... etc. A rolling stone gathers no moss and all that... Life between being a mom (to actual children, and the animals), a full-time high school counselor, wife, and then also a pageant director can be a lot! I struggle with attending to one task without constantly thinking about another. But I do think as women, this is not uncommon. We seem to always try to be in 15 different places at once, and that is certainly not an easy task. However, I can't see myself giving up any of it. None. Nada.

And now I have started a nonprofit, and truth be told, I have no idea what to do with that. I have lofty fundraising goals, but once again, where is the time? I'm not complaining! It's been a dream of mine since I started directing pageants - to be able to offer low entry fees to contestants, and sponsorships through nonprofit donations. So, that is yet another work in progress.

I get frustrated with myself because sometimes, I have so much to do it actually seems to paralyze me. I can't move because I can't figure out where to start. I don't think this winter is helping anything either, because there are days I can't fathom putting one foot in front of the other to get out from under a cozy blanket. But, once I get moving, things usually seem to improve. That is the advice I'm always doling out to students (whether they ask or not) - one thing at a time! I need to learn to start following it. Balance is much easier when I can focus on just one of the many things that need to get done.

So that's it. Life is a balancing act. I do not have an answer for how to make it easier. When I come up with that, I will write a book, make millions, and save the planet from global climate change. Until then, I will keep telling myself (and maybe listening to myself) - ONE thing at a time. Focus on the here and now, and get it done before worrying about the next task. Just. One. Thing.
